James J. Kenny, PHD, 94, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family. He is predeceased by the love of his life, his wife, Nora J. (Fitzgerald) Kenny for 65 years. Born in Waterbury, CT, he was the son of the late James F. and Mathilda E. (Kotters) Kenny. James was the beloved father of Edward J. Kenny (late Gisele “Jessie”), William F. Kenny, Michael P. Kenny (Julie), James F. Kenny (Glorita “Sam”) and Elaine M. Sischo. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a great great-grandson. James was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He served as an alter server in Waterbury, CT and was a Director of Altar Boys in Woodbridge, CT. He was an Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow, Ad Altari Dei Metal, Treasurer and Scout Committee. James was a mathematics teacher in Woodbridge, CT, Dean, Evening Division, Quinnipiac University, Hamden, CT, President New Haven Personnel Association 73 to 74, President of Education, Media Association, RI 81 to 82, Associate Professor of Instructional Technology, RIC 74 to 92 and was an Associate Professor Emeritus at RIC.
His visitation will be held Friday, August 25, 2023, from 9-10am in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick, RI followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Kevin Church, Sandy Lane, Warwick.
