Candis Kowalik of the Warwick Vets gymnastics team impressed at the New England Gymnastics Championships at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, N.H. on Saturday.
Kowalik, a three-time all-round state champion, placed third for all-around at New England’s with a score of 37.950. The senior also earned a gold on vault, a bronze on floor and finished sixth for both bars and beam.
As a team, Vets finished in 12th in the region with a team score of 133.375. North Kingstown, this year’s state champion, was the top Rhode Island team, placing in seventh with a score of 136.900.
Seven Lady Titans earn accolades
Seven players from the Warwick Co-op girls’ hockey team received postseason accolades last week.
Headlining the selections were Madison Balutowski, Savannah Hersey and Erin Vermilye, who were all named First Team All-Division for Division II.
Earning Second Team All-Division honors were Kelsey Holmes and Natasha Savage, while Alyssa Mathews and Makenzie Driscoll received honorable mentions.
In addition to the All-Division selection, Hersey also received the Bill Nangle Leadership Award and the Hobey Baker Award. Hobey Baker Award winners are selected based on their integrity, coachability, outstanding sportsmanship and community spirit.
