Dear Kevin,
I believe you can hear me in spirit what I am about to write. In the spring of 1968 I was 4 years old and was on top of the handlebars of your sister Mimi’s bike riding down Lyndon Road very fast in Edgewood. I only have a fleeting memory of my legs going into the spokes of the front tie, but through stories I have heard through the years, I have come to find out that right after the accident you, along with your mom, rushed me to Cranston General for treatment I needed – and I know how proud and happy my mom was that you made such a good effort for me!
I know 49 years is a long time to say thank you, but as Veterans Day comes I want to thank you for the ultimate sacrifice you gave for the United States of America on September 17, 1968 in Quang Nam Province, Republic of South Vietnam, leaving a gold star family crippled and dazed at the awful news.
Kevin, I know you are here in spirit and you showed courage at a very early age with me, and more importantly with your valor in South Vietnam.
It has been said that it is not the longevity of one’s life that matters, it is the quality of one’s life that is important. Kevin, I know you are in Heaven and the stars spell out your name.
