It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Lopes, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and esteemed member of the community. John departed this world on September 11, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of service, dedication, and boundless love. He was the beloved husband of Karen (Farmer) Lopes, his high school sweetheart, to whom he shared 56 years of marriage.
Born to John Lopes and Mary Silva, John was the eldest of six siblings, including the late Robert Lopes, a role he embraced with grace and responsibility. He leaves behind fond memories for his brother Joe Lopes, and sisters Janice Jessop, Karen Rainone, and Maureen McMahon.

John's early years were marked by proudly serving in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. His dedication to his country was unwavering, and he wore his veteran status with a profound sense of pride. His time in the military shaped him into an honorable, disciplined individual, and he carried the values instilled in him during those years throughout his entire life. Following his service, John dedicated 25 years of his life to AB Dick, where his hard work and determination earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike. His professionalism and work ethic left an indelible mark on the company. Beyond his professional life, John found solace and joy in his woodshop, where he crafted beautiful pieces that will stand as a testament to his skill and creativity.

With his beloved wife Karen by his side, John embarked on countless adventures, exploring the open road on his motorcycle. Their shared passion for travel created a tapestry of cherished memories that will forever be treasured.

John's devotion to family extended to his role as a father. He leaves behind his children, John and wife Valerie, and Wendy, who will forever carry forward his legacy of love and strength. His grandchildren, Jonathan and Alexa, Bethanie and Zack, Jax, Amber, and Christian Robert, were the lights of his life, and he took immense pride in watching them grow and flourish.

In the hearts of those who knew him, John Lopes will forever be remembered for his honesty, his unwavering sense of duty, and his boundless love for family. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the memories and hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of John's life will be held from 4-7PM on Friday, September 15, 2023, at the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave, Warwick, RI 02889, with full military honors to follow at 7PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in John's name to Disabled American Veterans, 360 Westminster St., Providence, RI 02903 (dav.org) or St. Jude 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (stjude.org).
