Ruth I. McCombs, 98, a lifelong resident of Warwick, passed peacefully on Monday, August 7, 2023. She was predeceased by her husband, Russell D. McCombs, to whom she was married for 73 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Conrad) Johnson of Welaka, FL; son, Richard (Kate) McCombs of Safety Harbor, FL, and Warwick, RI; grandchildren, Paul (Sarah) Giroux of Warwick, RI; Erin (Jason) Rosenblum of Cheshire, CT; Kyle (Chrissy) McCombs of Harrisville, RI, and six great-grandchildren.
Born on February 3, 1925, Ruth grew up in the Meshanticut section of Cranston, the youngest and last remaining of seven children of the late Charles and Annie (Seaberg) Nelson. She graduated from Cranston High School in 1943 and belonged to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. She worked for New England Telephone as a report clerk, retiring as a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers. Ruth and Russell wintered many years in Bradenton, FL, after retirement. She was quite skilled in her gardening, enjoyed her retirement years, and liked to travel, exploring country roads, and appreciated spending time with family and friends.
We will miss her smile and laughter.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick. Burial at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, where she will be interred with her husband Russell, will be private and at a later date.
