Edward J. McDonald, 45, passed away unexpectedly on September 4, 2023, in College Station, TX. Ed was the son of Donna Ohsberg and William McDonald.
Ed grew up in Warwick, Rhode Island and graduated from Pilgrim High School in 1996 where he was a member of The Golden Dozen. He went on to attend RPI in Troy, NY and received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 2000. He later moved to Texas for graduate school at Texas A&M and became a beloved part of the community. While in Texas, Ed also received a Master of Arts in Theology from the Augustine Institute.
When Ed’s mom would worry that he was in Texas with no family, he would remind her that he was part of four families in College Station. His family at St. Mary’s Catholic Center where he served as a leader of the RCIA and Confirmation team for the last 15 years. His teammates in the College Station Adult Hockey League at Spirit Ice Arena. His work family with the City of College Station where he worked a Capital Improvement Projects Engineer and his Bourbon Club family.
Ed was kind, thoughtful and hardworking. Even in Texas, he remained a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, and New England Patriots.
Ed is survived by his mother, his father, and brother Patrick McDonald (wife Katie) and his niece Grace McDonald. He adored being an uncle and loved cheering Grace on in all her academic, artistic, and athletic passions even from afar. He is also survived by his stepsister Tiffany Johnson and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Ed also leaves behind his beloved dog Captain. Ed was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Edward & Mary Ohsberg, his paternal grandparents, Thomas & Frances McDonald, and his stepmother Donna McDonald.
The family would like to thank all of Ed’s adopted families – and the community of College Station - for the tremendous outpouring of love and support.
A Celebration of Ed’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 12 Noon at The Greenwood Inn, 1350 Jefferson Blvd, Warwick.
