Barbara R. (West) McKerracher, age 83, of Warwick, passed away on Wednesday, June 5. 2024. She was the wife of the late Douglas S. McKerracher.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Ruth Ellen (Mosher) West and sister of Robert, Russell, and the late Richard. Barbara was a graduate of Warwick Veterans High School and continued her education in nursing, graduating from Boston Children's Hospital, later returning to school, earning a degree in history at Rhode Island College. Barbara traveled with her husband in the military to Germany and worked in the Army Hospital. Once back in the United States, she worked as a Registered Nurse with Hartford Hospital and later specialized as a pediatric nurse at Rhode Island Hospital followed by Hasbro Children’s Hospital, before going on to work as a geriatric nurse until her retirement.

Barbara was a published author and shared her talent by teaching a weekly journaling group at her home and the Warwick Public Library for many years. She loved crafting and never left the house without a ball of yarn. She was always crocheting, knitting or sewing her next piece. She was also passionate about history, classical music, reading, gardening, Jeopardy, and watching the Boston Red Sox. Her most cherished time, however, was spent with her family and loved ones. Barbara and her unmistakable laugh will be sorely missed by all that knew her.

She is survived by her two children, Todd McKerracher (Susan) and Wendy Iannotta; grandchildren, Jessica, Leslie, Shawn, Scott, Gianni, Danielle, David, and Nino; and great-grandchildren, Paige, Julio, Sebastian, Aurelia, and Siena.

Relatives and friends are invited to join her funeral service on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 7:00PM in the Thomas and Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick. Visitation will be held prior, from 4:00PM – 7:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Burial to take place at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
