Charles A. Metivier, Sr., 78, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2023 surrounded by his family.

Charles was born in West Warwick, the son of the late Alfred J. and Florence G. (Langevin) Metivier. He would later attend Warwick Veterans Memorial High School where he would first start to date his high school sweetheart. Sylveria S. (McCurdy) Metivier would be his beloved wife of 57 years.

Charles was a welder and pipefitter for Local 51 until retiring. He was also a US Navy Veteran who served three tours of duty during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the William Shield Post Number 43 of Warwick.

In life Charles was a master storyteller. He could always be counted on to share his experiences, explain what life had taught him, tell jokes and laugh loudly. Understanding and comforting, Charles showed great care for his family. Selfless, honest and kind to a fault, Charles was also a true friend.

Charles leaves two sons, Charles A. Metivier, Jr. and his wife, Sheena, and Michael D. Metivier and his wife, Gabriela, one daughter, Shelly A. M. Scott and her husband, Chris. He also leaves two sisters, Eileen Elderkin and Jean Bradford.

Charles found great joy in caring for his five grandchildren. Lovingly known simply as “Papa” to each of them, Charles leaves behind Ashley, Christopher, Olivia, Gael, and Elio. He also will miss his three great grandchildren, Dakota, Aaron, and Savannah.

Charles is predeceased by his siblings, Richard Metivier and Paul Metivier, and Joan Aker.
