The Providence Northern Model Railroad Club will be hosting their annual two days open house on Dec. 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will be taking place at 1175 West Shore Road in Warwick and there is a suggested donation of $2 for adults, a $5 maximum for families and free for children 12 and under. They are currently building a HO scale layout that is based on the New England area in 1985 from Providence to Northern Vermont and reaching Montreal Canada. The Warwick Rotary 5K Turkey Trot will be taking place on Thanksgiving Day, starting at 8 a.m. at the Warwick City Park Ball Fields. Race day registration will begin at 7:15 a.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Rhode Island Medical Reserve Corps, the Westbay Marketplace food pantry, and the Warwick Rotary Charity Fund. There will also be a costume contest as part of the event with prizes awarded for best costume, most original, and best dressed family/ group. The cost to participate in the run is one non-perishable food item per person plus $20 for adults, $15 for students 6 to 18 years old, and children 5 and under are free with paid adults. Families of two adults and two students are $50, and virtual runners are $20. All participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt. The Gaspee Seniors will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 16,at the Pilgrim Senior Center. The meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. The program for the day is a Turkey Trot Race. Please bring small bills to place your bets on the turkeys. Please bring items for the Christmas Basket raffle scheduled for Dec. 17. They will be accepting donations for Neighbors Helping Neighbors. The meeting having been postponed by last week’s storm, theNorwood Neighborhood Association will hold a general meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 17th, at 7:00 p.m., at the Norwood Boys & Girls Club on 43 Frederick Street. The Saint Kevin/St. Benedict Parish Christmas Bazaar will be held at Bishop Hendricken High School, Saturday, November 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It is a day of fun for the family, featuring a Baked goods table, Christmas Decoration table, New to You Booth ( White Elephant) with many hidden treasures. You may also want to try your luck at our raffles which include: The Annual Christmas Raffle with four cash prizes, A Penny Social, The Straw Raffle, The Children of St. Kevin School Baskets, Turkey Trots, liquor baskets and the Cork Pull. The Vender area will also have a raffle and will include17 tables where Vendors will be displaying their products for sale.
On Thanksgiving weekend, the Rhode Island Shriners will host their seventh annual Fez-tival of Trees. The event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 27, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday, Nov. 28, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet, located at 60 Rhodes Place in Cranston. There is a suggested $2 donation for adults at the door, and children 12 and under are admitted at no cost. There will be tree and wreath displays, free children’s activities, table raffles, a 50/50 cash raffle, penny socials, a holiday marketplace featuring crafters and artisans, refreshments at Mrs. Claus’s Café, musical entertainment and more. Mayor Ken Hopkins and the city of Cranston have announced the return of the Veterans Day Parade on Thursday, Nov. 11, at 10:30 a.m. The parade will begin at the front of Legion Bowl on Park Avenue and continue past City Hall and then down Rolfe Square. Ocean State Artisans will host its 30th annual Holiday Craft Show from Friday, Nov. 26, to Sunday, Nov. 28, at its new location at 1276 Bald Hill Road in Warwick. Warwick Center for the Arts is hosting its 35th Annual RI Open through Nov. 20. The RI Open is WCFA’s annual exhibit of original artwork created by artists who live or work in Rhode Island. Each year, the organization looks forward to this opportunity to celebrate the creativity and artistic vision of Rhode Islanders. All media will be presented, such as drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, photography, digital arts and textile arts. The exhibit is free and open to the public. West Bay Anglers will hold a meat and lobster raffle every Saturday starting Nov. 6 through Marc 2022 at the Warwick Firemen’s Association 750 Warwick Ave., Warwick starting at 1 p.m. Prizes include money, lobster, meats and appliances. The Warwick Symphony Orchestra will be presenting their Classical Autumn this November in Cranston and North Kingstown. The first performance will be taking place on Friday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Scottish Rite Masonic Lodge - Auditorium located at 2115 Broad Street, Cranston. It will also be taking place on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 3 p.m. at St. Bernard Church, which is located at 275 Tower Hill Road, in North Kingstown. Meals on Wheels of RI is in immediate need of volunteers for its Home-Delivered Meal Program in Warwick. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The program helps homebound seniors remain healthy, safe, and happy at home. From Sunday, November 7 to Tuesday, November 9, AARP is hosting a trip to Atlantic City. On the 7th, attendees will depart at 7:30 a.m. from the I-95 Park & Ride at Exit 6A, Coventry and travel to Atlantic City’s first casino, Resorts. Upon arrival, guests will receive $20 casino slot cash, $50 in food credits, and a casino show. The bus will return to RI around 7:30 p.m. on the 9th. The tour cost is $269 per person for a double room, $259 per person for a triple room, and $369 per person for a single room. The Warwick Public Library and the RI Family Literacy Initiative host English as a Second Language (ESL) classes starting on September 20. Practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in small groups. Prepare for the U.S. Naturalization Interview with Citizen Preparation classes at the Warwick Public Library. Practice citizenship vocabulary, learn the necessary civics content, and work on interview skills using the N-400 application form.
