A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a Friday morning accident on Airport Road, according to police.
The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 9:54 a.m., police said. The operator, identified as 23-year-old Matthew Bell of West Warwick, was reportedly in serious but stable condition at Rhode Island Hospital.
The investigation of the incident found Bell had been traveling east through a construction zone in the area of 300 Airport Road when he lost control of the motorcycle, according to police. A Warwick officer was present with a marked cruiser and had traffic in both the east and westbound lanes stopped at the time. The crash is said to have occurred several hundred feet west of the officer’s position.
“The operator appears to have laid the bike down and was thrown from the motorcycle and tumbled eastbound for several feet before coming to rest,” reads a news release from Warwick police. “The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.”
The initial investigation found that neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be factors in the crash, police said.
The investigation remains ongoing, and Warwick police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact either Sgt. Earl Read or Officer Jason Farias in the Traffic Division at 401-468-4343.
