Margaret (Lockard) Oakes 98, of Warwick, RI passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family on September 20, 2023.
Born in Shelby, North Carolina in 1925 to the late Mary Degree and Carl Lockard. Margaret one of 4 children; sister to the late Leatha Lockard, William McCoy, and Willa-Mae Eskridge.
Margaret was a devoted member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church for over 70 years, serving as a member of the Alter Guild. She loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family on Sundays, she was also an avid bowler and bingo player.
Margaret is predeceased by her loving husband Walter Oakes Sr. They had been married 75 years prior to his passing. She was the devoted mother of Patricia Amado, of Palm Coast, FL, Barbara Costa of New Bedford, MA., Susan Oakes, Phillis Roma and Walter Oakes Jr., all from Warwick, RI
She was Steadfast Nana to 7 grandchildren: Richard Roma, Chenille King, Olivia Grant, Vanessa Oakes, Veronica Oakes, Steven Oakes, and Lisha Oakes, as well as 15 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday September 27, 2023, at 12:30 p.m. in the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
