The Elizabeth Buffam Chace Center didn’t have a seat to spare for the 17th annual Run for the Roses dinner, auction and live streaming of the Kentucky Derby held Saturday at the Warwick Country Club. EBC executive director Judith Earle, whose late husband and former Warwick City Solicitor John Earle spurred the first event on, is pictured outside the club holding a ladies spur. “It was a great event, everything and more than we hoped for,” she said Monday. She estimated the run raised more than $40,000. Those attending numbering more than 160 could purchase tabs with the random names of horses with the chances of winnings from Toby Rose who is pictured with events organizer and development director Rachael Caliri. NBC10 meteorologist Christina Erne served as event moderator. Major sponsors of the event included the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association, Greenwood Credit Union and John Rocchio Corporation. And seeing it was the derby, EBC board member Steve Tetzner, brought along two of his horses to stand by and greet guests. (Warwick Beacon photos)
