To the Editor:
Thank you for having your reporter, Tessa Roy, come over to meet with Roberta and me last week. Her story reached far beyond what I thought possible. I received a telephone call this morning from a gentleman who once lived in Rhode Island. He still reads the Beacon and saw the story about Neighbors Helping Neighbors donations being down.
He remembers when the program began over 20 years ago and understands the importance of helping those less fortunate. He and his wife will be sending a check for $3,000 this week and wish to be remembered as “Old Friends from Warwick.” We had a wonderful conversation about the move to another state and how he still loves to read the Beacon. His only request was to remain anonymous or simply “Old Friends of Warwick.” I thanked him with all of my heart and I am so grateful for their generosity.
“Old Friends of Warwick,” God love you! Merry Christmas. Patti St. Amant
City of Warwick Director of Family Support Services
