Dedication, leadership and a strong sense of morality propelled Olivia Martinelli to be named the Boys & Girls Clubs of Warwick’s Youth of the Year for the third consecutive year.
Olivia attended the Oakland Beach branch since she was 8 years old. During that time, despite whatever difficulties she was facing, she always displayed maturity, independence and compassion for others.
“We are so proud of Olivia!”, said BGCW executive director Lara D’Antuono. “No matter what problems she may personally be facing, Olivia doesn’t let them hold her back. She stays focused on her goals, while at the same time always treating everyone with genuine care and concern.”
Oliva so impressed Club management that when she recently turned 18, she was offered a job as a senior staff member – which everyone at BGCW was glad she accepted. According to Oakland Beach branch director Kat Kenney, upon being asked to run the site’s education room, Olivia worked extra hours to transform the room into a more welcoming place. And, despite her age and having had a peer relationship with many of the members, she adeptly maintained control and authority while exhibiting genuine care and attentive support for the young members.
Although Olivia did not win the Rhode Island Youth of Year title, won by a member of the East Providence Club, she took it in stride and remains motivated to achieve her next goal – becoming an outstanding Rhode Island teacher.
