Seventh graders and their parents lined up at Gorton Junior High School for orientation Tuesday evening. A short-term school facilities planning committee voted to close the school this year, however, the School Committee gave it at least a one-year reprieve so that a long-range plan to account for declining school aged population could be developed. That committee recently unanimously agreed secondary school consolidation needs to occur. Its report is due shortly after the first of the New Year.
