Panthers snap skid with win over NP

The Johnston baseball team snapped a two-game losing streak when it picked up a 3-1 win over North Providence at home on Monday evening.
The Panthers were led by senior Derek Salvatore on the mound, who pitched seven innings and allowed just one run while striking out four batters.
Salvatore helped his own cause at the plate by going 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Chris Civetti also knocked in a run. Kevin Biscelli scored twice while Davian Nunez also crossed home.
Johnston improved to 4-12 with the win.
Johnston’s previous win came against Chariho in a 5-3 decision.
Salvatore also got the win on the mound for Johnston, pitching seven innings and allowing three runs while striking out four batters.
Salvatore also went 2-for-3, knocking in a pair of runs while Dean Paris went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Nunez also recorded an RBI in the victory.
Salvatore leads the team in batting average and ERA while Paris leads the club in on base percentage.
The two clubs met for a rematch on Tuesday evening in North Providence with the winner clinching the final seed in the Division II playoffs. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the Cougars would roar to an 8-4 win.
North Providence jumped out to a 4-0 lead through two innings but the Panthers would pull within a run to make it 4-3. The Cougars would respond and put up insurance runs down the stretch.
Nunez, Biscelli and Aidan McGarry knocked in runs for Johnston.
