The Pilgrim softball team won the opening round of the Division I playoffs when it cruised to a 6-1 win over Smithfield last week.
Pitcher Alyssa Twomey pitched a complete game for Pilgrim, allowing just one run while striking out nine batters.
Genna D’Amato led the way at the plate for Pilgrim, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Twomey helped her own cause, going 1-for-3 with two RBI as well, while Audra McDonnell knocked in a run.
Pilgrim was slated to take on Bay View in the winners bracket on Tuesday but the game was pushed to Wednesday due to rain. The results were not available at press time.
BASEBALL
Hendricken 4, Cumberland 2
The Hawks won their first game of the playoffs on the back of ace Alex Clemmey.
The Vanderbilt-commit pitched 5 1/3 innings before hitting his pitch count and racked up 14 strikeouts. Jack LaRose and Braedon Campbell scored runs for Hendricken.
The Hawks took on Cumberland in the pod final on Wednesday, but the results were not available at press time.
