While he may not have as much of a war chest as past mayors, or have as much as Cranston Mayor Ken Hopkins, Mayor Frank Picozzi has increased his campaign account from $7,798.75 to  $26,327.80 during the latest campaign finance quarter which went from Oct.1 to Dec. 31. 

Picozzi in an interview Tuesday said that he would need to have another fundraiser, if he decides to run for re-election. He said he would give it more thought about running for re-election in the springtime. 

“I haven’t really focused on it,” said Picozzi. 

With five months to go until the official declaration period the question remains is who, if anyone, will face off against Picozzi come November. That’s, of course, if he decides to run.

Picozzi ruled out one office he won’t be seeking – governor.

Donating to his campaign during the reporting period were 37 City of Warwick employees. The employees combined to donate about $6,000 in total. 

Picozzi also had donations from School District employees including Superintendent Lynn Dambruch, and Assistant Superintendent Bill McCaffrey. 

Former Warwick mayors Scott Avedisian, Joseph Walsh, and Philip Noel along with former Cranston Mayor Allan Fung made donations. 

The list of donors includes a number of Democrat elected officials past and present including House Speaker K. Jospeh Shekarchi, Senate Majority Leader Michael McCaffrey, State Representative David Bennett,  and  former State Senator John Revens.

In the latest campaign finance cycle, Ward 9 Councilor Vincent Gebhart donated $250 to Picozzi’s campaign and Ward 5 Councilman Ed Ladouceur donated $200. During the 2020 campaign cycle Ladouceur broke the ranks by endorsing Picozzi for Mayor. He was the only council member to do so. Ward 6 Councilor Donna Travis donated $200 to Picozzi’s campaign in June. 

Picozzi also took in donations from former City employees including his brother David Picozzi and former City Solicitor Peter Ruggiero. 

According to campaign finance reports, Picozzi raised over $31,000 in donations throughout the 2020 campaign. In total he spent about $28,000 during the campaign. 

During the 2020 General Election the late Joseph Solomon raised more than $86,000 and spent over $170,000.
