The Pilgrim wrestling team is on a tear in Division II and has picked up multiple victories in the past week.
The Pats most recently beat East Greenwich in a big 42-33 decision. Serigne Saliou pinned his opponent at 132 pounds, while Pilgrim’s Donovan Watts and Trevor O’Connor each won via pin at 165 and 175 pounds, respectively.
The prior match, Pilgrim cruised past Exeter-West Greenwich 66-18.
Watts and O’Connor earned wins by pin again, and Christian Snead would pin his opponent at 215 pounds for the Pats to wrap up the victory.
Pilgrim also picked up a win over crosstown rival and division foe Toll Gate in a tri-match, edging the Titans 38-35.
Jack Sabatelli got a win at 106 pounds for Toll Gate while Jacob Oliveira won at 113 for Pilgrim. Jared Sabatelli got a win for Toll Gate at 126 pounds, while Saliou won at 132.
Toll Gate’s Ben DeNoncour earned a win by pin at 138 pounds, followed by teammate Landon Mahar, who took home a victory by pin at 150 pounds. Pilgrim surged the rest of the way to come back to get the win, as Sincere Mello won at 157 pounds, then Watts, O’Connor, Snead and Andrew Arsenault all took home victories.
Pilgrim finished its regular season in second place in Division II and will now be competing at sectionals, followed by states in the coming weeks.
