Earlier this winter snowy owls made Conimicut Point a popular spot to visit and then Friday a harp seal caused a stir when it chose to sun itself on the sand bar. According to Kelly Jay Sullivan, who took this picture from a distance as to not disturb the seal, the animal demonstrated no fear of humans and dogs that came within feet until a volunteer from Mystic Aquarium urged them to stand back. An aquarium spokeswoman said yesterday there were no apparent injuries to the seal and it may have chosen the point for a rest. It was gone later that night.
