NO TRESPASS

A Virginia man has been banned from a Target parking lot following a call to police.

At 6:43 p.m., April 28, Warwick Police officer Jake R. Reddy responded to the Target parking lot, at 1245 Bald Hill Road for the report of a man playing the violin with a speaker.

A loss prevention agent who works for Target told police that they wanted the man “No Trespassed from their property,” according to the police incident report.

The man was identified as Ionut Budica, 37, of Petersburg, Virginia.

“Budica was outside of his van playing a violin connected to a speaker and was collecting money donations,” Reddy wrote. “He said he was living out of his van and was traveling from Virginia, but could not give me a reason as to why he was in Warwick.”

Police filed the No Trespass Order and advised Budica that he would be arrested if he returned to the property. He left the property without incident.

DUI

At 1:34 a.m., April 15, Warwick Police responded to McDonald’s Drive Thru at 876 Bald Hill Road to investigate the report of a man passed out behind the wheel.

Police arrived on scene and found a large gray 2022 Ford F250 blocking the drive thru lane.

“I immediately pulled to the rear of the vehicle where I made a driver’s side approach,” Warwick Police Officer Charles M. Vella wrote in the arrest report. “I then could see the top of the male’s head as he was slumped to the side, clearly passed out inside of his running vehicle with the key in the ignition.”

Vella made multiple attempts to wake the driver, knocking on the windshield. Finally he awoke.

Police identified the diver as Anthony J. Mako, 42, of West Warwick.

Another officer on the scene, Maxwell C. Poupart, found “an open container of alcohol in the cup holder.”

Police asked Mako to submit to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. He consented. Following the tests, Mako was arrested and charged with DUI of Liquor (BAC unknown, first offense) and refused a citation for Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test (first offense).

After processing, Mako was transported to Kent County Memorial Hospital for detox.

TOXIC VAPORS

Around 12:20 p.m., April 20, Warwick Police Officer Nathaniel Gray was dispatched to Walmart, 650 Bald Hill Road, to investigate the report that a man was “huffing” in the bathroom.

A store loss prevention officer told Gray that a man was inside the bathroom “huffing the air dusters you can get from electronics” and was the only person in the bathroom.

“I could hear the sound of compressed air being let out of something as I stood outside of the bathroom,” Gray wrote in the arrest report. “I then opened the door and observed someone to be in one of the bathroom stalls.”

Gray announced his presence.

“The male then proceeded to utilize the inhalants in my presence,” Gray wrote. “I then knocked on the door to the stall multiple times. The male then dropped a Surf Onn Electronics Duster on the bathroom floor.”

The man inside the stall eventually unlatched the door. Another police officer arrived on the scene.

Police identified the man as Trevor J. Maguire, 32, of East Greenwich.

A loss prevention employee told police that they would like to press charges for the stolen merchandise and have Maguire trespassed from the store.

Maguire was arrested and charged with two counts of Sale, Possession and Use of Toxic Vapors (a misdemeanor) and one count of Shoplifting. He was held as a bail violator and eventually transported to Third District Court for arraignment.
