SUSPENDED LICENSE

Around 5:52 p.m., May 6, Warwick Police Officer Nathaniel Gray was working a Click It Or Ticket detail at a fixed traffic post, parked at the Mobile gas station on Jefferson Boulevard when he spotted a red 2021 Hyundai Sonata traveling north, and the driver was allegedly not wearing a seatbelt.

Gray initiated a traffic stop on Route 95 North, just prior to Exti 16.

Police identified the driver as Roberto X. Tantao, 23, of 68 Lisbon St., Providence, “via his DMV photo and arrest photos in police databases.”

“Upon running checks on Tantao, I determined that his license was currently suspended,” Gray wrote in the arrest report. “It should be noted that the front seat passenger did not wish to identify himself.”

Police confirmed “that this would be Tantao’s fourth offense for driving with a suspended license,” making it a misdemeanor offense. More units arrived on the scene to assist.

Tantao was arrested, searched and transported to Warwick Police Headquarters. He was charged with Driving with Suspended/Revoked/Cancelled License (fourth offense) and issued a citation for No Seat Belt Operator and released from headquarters.

DUI

Around 9 p.m., May 17, Warwick Police were dispatched to the area of 413 Knight St. and 255 Lambert Lind Highway for the report of a vehicle crash with no injuries.

Police spoke to one of the drivers. Their vehicle had “very minor operable damage to the front license plate.” The driver and sole occupant was still behind the wheel with the engine running. Police identified the driver as Kayla Beaufort, 33, of 53 Polaski St., West Warwick.

After asking Beaufort what happened, she allegedly said, “Umm, he was just stopped here, and I bumped up against his butt,” and laughed.

“While she was speaking, her speech was slightly slurred and I could smell a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emanating form her breath,” wrote Warwick Police Officer Sara L. Goes. The driver allegedly told police that she had not had “much at all” to drink, but “appeared very confused, and was having a hard time focusing and gathering her thoughts while staring blankly at me.”

The occupants of the other vehicle were not injured and refused rescue services.

Police asked Beaufort to consent to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. She consented, and following the tests, police placed her under arrest. She was transported to Warwick Police Headquarters, where she allegedly told police she was drinking “Moscow Mules” at a pair of Warwick bars. She refused to take a chemical breath test. She was charged with DUI of Liquor (BAC unknown, first offense) and issued citations for Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test (first offense) and Interval Between Vehicles.

FAILURE TO STOP

On May 20, Cassandra L. Stevens, 33, of 3564 Flat River Road, Coventry, turned herself in at the Warwick Police Headquarters on an outstanding warrant for a hit-and-run crash, which had occurred on April 11.

According to the incident report, police spoke to a woman about the crash April 12, and Stevens allegedly admitted that she was a driver involved in a collision but left the scene “because she was nervous.”

The crash occurred at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Kilvert Street. The other driver told police that they wanted to proceed with a criminal complaint. Police issued a warrant Stevens’ arrest on a charge of Failure to Stop for Accident with Damage to an Attended Vehicle.

She was booked and issued a Third District Court summons.
