If the true sign of being accepted as a new bank branch in Warwick is being robbed, an unknown suspect welcomed the TD Bank branch on West Shore Road to the city on Saturday. The police are searching for a suspect in the late afternoon robbery.
Police were sent to the bank at 2625 West Shore Road at about 3:52 p.m. Bank employees said a man who claimed to have a weapon robbed the bank, making away with an undisclosed amount of money. No weapon was actually shown in the robbery and the man fled on foot, the police said. The bank branch opened in May.
It was the second bank robbery in Warwick within a week.
On Sept. 12, police said a light-skinned female robbed the Sovereign Bank at 1927 Post Road around 11:30 a.m. The female suspect passed a note to the teller and left with an undisclosed amount of cash. The female was last seen on foot heading in a northerly direction from the bank parking lot. A weapon was mentioned in a note but none was brandished during the theft. There was no information on whether a vehicle was involved in the robbery. Anyone with information about either robbery is asked to call Warwick Police Detectives at 468-4233 or their Tips Line at 732-8477.
