To the Editor:
Given the virulent anti-police rhetoric that seems to be dominating the news lately I felt perhaps it’s time to offer some counter points. I am appalled at the “reporting” coming out of Ferguson, Mo. and what is my opinion, the failure of the press to objectively cover the events there. All one is subjected to on TV and in the print media are “stories,” which in my opinion have failed to answer the basic questions of journalism namely, who, what, when, where and why.
When I read headlines like “Teachers union backs Sharpton’s planned anti-police rally,” I have to shake my head in disbelief. Are they kidding me? Where are the teachers protesting the violent shooting of children every week in Chicago? Why have they turned on the very people who are sworn to protect them and uphold the law?
I, for one, have had enough of the politically correct BS! My God, has America really sunk to the level where the police are despised and vilified by a press that fails to report the facts?
I personally know many members of the Warwick Police Department and wish to say thank you. They are there to serve and protect us. Would any of you take their place? Ask yourself who would you call if you felt threatened or endangered or have need of help? Would it be the press? I think not!
Warwick’s first responders, both police and firefighters, deserve our respect and gratitude. Next time you see one of Warwick’s finest, you just might want to say thanks. Regrettably, way too many of us take them for granted until we’re in distress.

Unfortunately, the situation is not so black and white. (no pun intended). The police of today are not the community responders they were in the past. They are emotionless, irrational and militarized, often with something to "prove". THIS is what has people so upset. There is a very real lack of accountability which needs to be addressed and unfortunatey, for every "hero" cop, there is an equally awful "bad" counterpart. The police are not above the very laws they are sworn to serve and protect, and that is a dire situation that needs to be rectified immediately.

And for what it's worth, it is NOT the press who has "vilified" the police. The police have brought that all upon themselves.
(Or are you about to tell us about members of the press shooting and killing unarmed people in cold blood?)

Three cheers for the guys in blue in Warwick. They did a terrific job to shoot that criminal on the tracks last week. The mainstream meda is sick and is incapable of telling the truth- they and Clayboy Pell put a spin on everything.

It's all in the description. Instead of accepting the narrative of "...the shooting of an unarmed black teenager" we said "...the shooting of a 300 lb. man who had just committed a felony, has a lengthy arrest record, and had just assaulted a police officer prior to charging at the officer in a menacing and drug-induced manner..." I guess that would negate the need for a candlelight vigil. I've been angry at incidents in our society, as well. However, I've never expressed that anger by looting a liquor or electronics store, vandalizing and burning the property of others, then blaming someone else.
