Volunteers of Warwick Schools hosted its annual volunteer appreciation reception April 26 at the new Tides Cafe at the Warwick Area Career and Technical Center. The room was filled with VOWS volunteers, Warwick Public Schools teachers, staff, administrators, local dignitaries and members of the VOWS Board of Directors. Chef Ray Depot, Chef Eva Niosi and the culinary arts students did a fantastic job in their new facility. VOWS is proud to have been their first big event.
Mary Townsend, Chair of the VOWS Board of Directors, Bethany Furtado, Chair of the Warwick School Committee, and Dr. Philip Thornton, Superintendent of Schools offered welcoming remarks and greetings to the full crowd that gathered.
On behalf of the VOWS Board of Directors, Audrey Shapiro presented the Robert J. Shapiro Award, which recognizes a WPS administrator for outstanding commitment to VOWS' mission to Holliman School Principal, Joe Coffey.
Claire Flaherty, Executive Director of VOWS presented awards to the 2018 Volunteers of the Year: Lisa Breault, Harold F. Scott Elementary School; Dave Brooke, Oakland Beach Elementary School; Jennifer Collins, Holliman Elementary School, Mary Conroy, Warwick Neck Elementary School, Melissa Eaton, Norwood Elementary School; Liz Gambuto, John Brown Francis Elementary School; Amanda Geer, Lippitt Elementary School; Susan Humphrey, Robertson Elementary School; Nancy Inman, Warren A. Sherman Elementary School;
Karlyn and Neil Janson, Cottrell F. Hoxsie Elementary School; Katia Monteiro, Greenwood Elementary School; Kim Radock, E.T. Wyman Elementary School; Tia Rondomanski, Cedar Hill Elementary School and Jonie Thornton, John Wickes Elementary School.
VOWS also honored three volunteers with "Above and Beyond" recognition. They are Andrew Arsenault, E.T. Wyman Elementary School, JoAnn Hosley, Holliman Elementary School and Karen Wild, John Brown Francis Elementary School.
