The Rhode Island Youth Theatre (RIYT) will bring “Oliver!” to the stage this weekend, July 17 and 18.
RIYT, a non-profit theatre company, has been putting on productions for the past 28 years with students from across the state.
This year’s “Oliver!,” based off the Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist, stars 54 students who will be performing songs like “Food, Glorious Food”, “Where is Love,” “Consider Yourself” and “As Long As He Needs Me.”
The musical, written by Lionel Bart, follows a young Oliver Twist throughout Victorian England as he maneuvers the London underworld, getting caught up in a gang of children pickpockets
The show will take place Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18 at 7 p.m. at the Scottish Rite Auditorium, 2115 Broad St., Cranston. Tickets are $12 per person in advance and $14 at the door. There will also be a preview performance Friday at 10 a.m. for groups and youth programs. Student group rates are $5 per student. Individual tickets are $12 a person.
