By ALEX SPONSELLER Rocky Hill School recently held its winter awards presentation, honoring many athletes at the school with school awards as well as league awards.

For middle school sports, winners from Warwick included Sabrina Chen, who won the Resiliency Award for girls basketball, while teammate Gretchen DeChant earned the Effort Award. Boden Dair won the Resiliency Award for middle school boys basketball.

Warwick resident Taylor Cote won the Mariner Award for the high school basketball team and was an Honorable Mention for All-SENEISAA.

Teammate Paige Johnson was Second Team, All-SENEISAA.

“I was very excited to receive my all-league honor. I am grateful that I was selected out of the many amazing players in my league. I worked hard all season, but it was not for the motivation of receiving the award, making this award even more exciting,” said Johnson.

Johnson thanked her family, coaches and teammates for her big season, and is already looking to be even better next season.

“The main factor for my performance is my amazing coach. Coach (Theresa) Conroy has a great understanding of the game, which allowed her to instruct our team in the best way possible. My teammates were also vital to my performance, whose movement and passing skills set me up for all my successful moments. Off the court, my teachers were fantastic for helping me balance my schoolwork and basketball. My family and friend's support at the games helped hype me up whenever I was feeling tired on the court,” said Johnson. “Of course, I want to improve my game in all areas possible, especially my outside shooting, and I plan on developing more post moves. No matter how good you are, there's always room to grow, and I know I have a lot of more improvement in my future as a player.”

Chase Schulte won the Mariner Award for the varsity boys team.

“Out of all the people on my team, I feel honored and humbled to be acknowledged for the Mariner Award. I appreciate the recognition from my coach and school, and I look forward to another successful season with my team,” said Schulte.

Motivation was key in his performance this past season.

“I was motivated by teammates, coaches, and peers, and I thrived based on the objectives set by Rocky Hill. I was determined to prove myself this season and show my worth as a teammate and leader,” said Schulte. “Next year, I would like to continue to evolve with my teammates, strengthen my skills as a leader on the court, and help make the team succeed to represent Warwick well.”

Teammate Denzel Correia was also named Second Team All-SENEISAA.
