Rolling out green for West Warwick parade
Vets Kayla McKenna joined the rest of the high school band as they played in Sunday’s West Warwick St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Conditions were bright, windy and chilly – that didn’t deter hundreds from lining the parade route, many decked out in the most appropriate color for the day. Kayla made sure to wear her shamrock.

CELEBRITY STATUS: Erin O’Connell in her role as Miss Ireland practices her wave. The O’Connell family and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick have organized the West Warwick parade since the 1960s.
SELFIE: Mike and Aliesha Piche snap a shot of themselves. Although he has a French background, Mike said he was Irish on Sunday.
STEPPING OUT IN RED: The Pawtuxet Rangers with Col. Ron Barnes in the lead didn’t wear a speck of green, at least that we could see.
BACK AGAIN: The tiny 1969 Fiat 500 that had transmission problems and made it partially through last year’s parade was back in the lineup this year with Bernadetta and Lenny Petrone of the International Motor Group of Warwick and their dogs ready to show off.
EXPECTING A CROWD: Alexandra Kazarian-Martinez and her husband, Santos Martinez, of Cranston take a break from Wow on Washington, on Washington Street in Coventry, to enjoy the parade. Alexandra opened the restaurant in September and the couple were geared up for plenty of hungry parade participants and spectators.
WHAT ELSE, BUT A LEPRECHAUN? Tim Cook with a “ginger” beard and the appropriate attire was among marchers from St. Mary’s Parish that is celebrating its 17th anniversary this year. Tim says he’s a pretty good Easter Bunny, too.
READY TO LEAD THE VETS: A contingent of Korean War veterans were warmly welcomed. Ready to lead the group here is Ed Ruzzano of Coventry.
NO MISTAKING WHAT TROOP: Chloe Landy of Brownies Troop 528 wore her shamrock proudly as she and members of the West Warwick troop marched.
CAPPED AND READY: Cuddles was ready to walk the parade route, although it would seem the hat was misplaced…or was it?
