Thomas Rooney, beloved father, grandfather, partner and friend, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2024, at the age of 82. He was surrounded by his family and his loving companion Rosemary in his final days.

Tom was born on October 16, 1941, in Providence, RI, to John Lester and Agnes (Shea) Rooney.

He grew up in a close-knit Irish family, developing a strong work ethic. He attended Hope High School, excelled in hockey and football and served as class president. After graduating from high school, Tom pursued a career in sales, serving as the District New England Manager of Table Talk Pies. In later years he was the supervisor of the custodial staff for the Warwick School Department, where his attention to detail and integrity earned him the respect of colleagues.

In 1964 Tom married Carol Caliri and they were blessed with three children, Karen Thomas (and son-in-law Glenn), Cindy Gavin (partner Joseph Sylvia), and Darlene Rooney-Keller (and son-in-law Leland), who were the light of his life. Although divorced, Carol and Tom maintained a close and caring relationship.

A devout catholic, Tom was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima’s parish and later, St. Kevin’s Parish in Warwick.  He was also an active member of the Warwick Council Knights of Columbus 2295, serving as Grand Knight for years. He ran many fundraisers that benefitted those in need.

In addition to his daughters and sons-in-law, Tom is survived by his faithful and loving companion Rose Rego. They shared over 30 years of enjoying life. He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren, Ryan Gavin, Sarah Gavin, Corey Gavin, Benjamin Thomas, Ned Thomas, William Thomas, Kianna Lauck, and Rowan Keller.  Tom was a devoted father and grandfather who took immense pride in his children's and grandchildren’s accomplishments, supporting them wholeheartedly in all their endeavors. Tom also leaves behind his big brother John Rooney and is predeceased by his sisters Maureen Mattos and Eleanor Rooney.

His funeral was held Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 8:45 a.m. from the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Tom’s life at 10:00 a.m. in St. Kevin Church 333 Sandy Lane, Warwick.  Interment was in St. Francis Cemetery, Smithfield Avenue, Pawtucket.  Visiting hours were Tuesday, June 25th from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to HopeHealth Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 in Tom’s memory.

Tom’s unwavering love for his family will forever remain in our hearts. We will miss his wonderful hugs, his warm smile, and his infectious laugh.  May he rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved and admired by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
