Jennifer Wheelehon, Director of Membership and Marketing at the Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, was in for a pleasant surprise when she brought the one dollar bill given to her by her grandmother as a graduation gift to business after hours at Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers in Cranston. Auctioneer specialist Travis Landry said the 1899 Black Eagle large dollar has a value of $250 to $350. As for the fish pictured, that’s one of the many intriguing items at the auction house on Fourth Street off Elmwood Avenue. During the chamber event, Paul Mellin brought in a collection of pocket watches for appraisal. Kevin Bruneau, president of the company (left), gave the watches a collective value of about $500. Bruneau said the “hot” auction items of the day are comic books. He said books have sold for more the $25,000 in auctions he’s conducted. (Warwick Beacon photos)
