Jaime Kilday, along with her daughters Abby and Alyssa (pictured), had no idea what to expect when they signed up to start a coat drive in the beginning of the New Year through One Warm Coat, a national nonprofit dedicated to providing coats to every person in need.
They set up a collection box at Greenwood Elementary School in Warwick, where the girls attend. The response, as Jaime put it, was “overwhelming.”
The girls wound up being able to donate 544 coats in total to Westbay Community Action, all collected in just about a month’s time. Jaime had to take several trips to Westbay because the number of bags wouldn’t fit in her car all at once.
Kilday said that she plans to do the coat drive annually since the first one was so successful.
“With the outpouring of support we received, I am so looking forward to the years to come,” Kilday said.
