Remembering with 100 lights

While the Station Fire Memorial Foundation did not hold a service on Sunday to recognize the tragedy that killed 100 people in the nightclub fire on Feb. 20, 2003, many visited the memorial in West Warwick over the course of the day. Among them was Susan Rezendes who lost her baby sister, Linda Suffoletto and son in-law Suffoletto. The couple had been married for 19 years and were parents to a son, Zack. Susan shared her feelings and memories of Linda as a hard working sister who put herself though school with WPRI Channel 12. Linda finds it difficult not to forget what the site of The Station nightclub looked like following the fire and for years thereafter. She finds peace in the memorial finding it important people never forget what happened. That evening starting at 6 and for 100 minutes, Stanley Tree Service of Smithfield used extended booms on its trucks to display a strand of 100 white lights and a string of 200 multicolored lights. Working to hoist the lights is Will Smith of the tree company. According to Jody King, a member of the foundation who lost his brother, a formal service will be held next year on the 20th anniversary and every five years thereafter.
