Tour de Cure

BICYCLING BOMBARDIERS: Pictured arriving at the Tour de Cure on June 5 were Matthew and his mother Amanda Bombardier getting ready for their 15-mile scenic ride. The both wore red tutus in support of the event. They are both from Cranston.

AFTER THE RIDE: Completing the seven-mile bike run at the Tour de Cure were members of the state House of Representatives team. Pictured are Angela Pierre-Louis, who is the reigning Miss Black RI Talented Teen, and team captain Rep. Robert Lancia of Cranston.

CLOSING CEREMONY: Pictured is Jennifer Kennedy, manager of fundraising and special events at the American Diabetes Association of RI, during the closing ceremonies. Kennedy, formerly from Cranston, coordinated the daylong event. During the closing ceremonies, she thanked all riders, volunteers, and committee members for their participation and assistance.

On June 5, approximately 500 bicycle riders took part in the Tour de Cure to raise funds for the American Diabetes Association of Rhode Island. Luckily, the heavy rain held off as people participated in their choice of rides, ranging from five miles to 100 miles. The event began and ended at the URI School of Pharmacy, where participants and volunteers enjoyed a BBQ and live band. (Herald photos by Steve Popiel)
