With 20 days to the primary election on Sept. 8, early voting started here and at municipalities across the state on Wednesday. As of noon Wednesday, 13 registered Warwick voters had cast ballots on a machine outside the Board of Canvassers office in City Hall. The process whereby ballots appropriate to the district and ward for the voter are printed on the spot has since been relocated to the City Council Chambers. Dottie McCarthy, director of the board pictured here, anticipates a large turnout and has arranged a system designed to keep voters distanced without prolonged waits. She said voters who have already applied for a mail ballot would not be able to vote early. Unaffiliated voters must declare whether they are voting in the Democratic or Republican primary in order to cast their ballot. (Warwick Beacon photo)
