THEATRE CAMP

(Campy Movie About Camp)
“Theatre Camp” is pure camp, in every sense of the word.
It plays out like a mock docudrama, at times making you wonder if it is putting you or or semi-serious about the world of a summer camp for budding young actors.
The beloved camp founder has a attack and falls into a coma. Her clueless son Troy (Jimmy Tatro) makes himself the director and proceeds to screw up everything, including the finances.
The camp staff is a mixture of wannabee thespians who occasionally baffle the campers (and the audience) with their words and actions.
It all comes down to the “Let’s put on a show” finale, where parents and benefactors show up to see the results of how their money was spent.
There are some funny lines, plus an opportunity for dozens of child actors to strut their stuff.
Love the bumper stick on one staff member’s car “Mom. Dad. I’m a thespian!”
Nasty kidney stones prevented me from wandering far from home and caused me to miss some openings. Here’s a quick summary.
DISNEY’S HAUNTED MANSION - Frequent TV ads convinced me that I didn’t miss much here. Other reviews were not very complementary.
RETRIBUTION - Liam Neeson grows older and meaner in yet another one of his action movies.
THE HILL - Niece Bonnie saw and enjoyed this faith based movie based on the real life of a major league baseball player who overcame great physical disabilities to become a leading home run hitter.
GOLDA - A gold star for Helen Mirren who played the title character, but the movie got mixed reviews.
THE LAST VOYAGE OF DEMETER - Dracula on a sailing ship. So sorry we missed that.
TEENAGE NINJA MUTANT TURTLES strike again. For the kids and adults who haven’t grown up yet.
THE POPE’S EXORCIST
*
Russell Crowe is the title character in this awful movie about the devil who enters a young boy’s body and needs to be exorcised. Avoid at all costs.
WHO IS ERIN CARTER?
* * * ½
An exciting series from Spain about a combat trained woman who starts a new life but can’t escape her old one after she becomes a hero preventing a robbery. Just when you think she’s out of trouble, something else happens to her and she is off on another adventure. It’s a bit far out, but it sure held Don’s interest.
