Sen. Valverde, Rep. Solomon recipients of Golden Paw Awards

Animal Rescue Rhode Island (ARRI) Chairman Kurt Jamiel and Executive Director Elizabeth (“Liz”) Skrobisch recently honored Senator Bridget G. Valverde of North Kingstown and Representative Joseph J. Solomon, Jr. of Warwick individually, with the esteemed Golden Paw Awards, 2020. ARRI’s Golden Paw Awards recognize and pay tribute to organizations and individuals who have contributed greatly advocating for homeless, abused, and abandoned animals. Many people and organizations qualify for this award, but only two recipients are selected every year.

“It brings us such joy to present our Golden Paw Awards to people who mirror our passion for saving more animals’ lives,” said Liz Skrobisch. “Although it’s never an easy process selecting only two recipients each year, both Senator Valverde and Representative Solomon are well-deserving of this recognition. Their commitment to animals is exceptional.”

“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized for my efforts by such a prestigious organization,” said Solomon, a longtime animal advocate who also sponsored a law protecting dogs from severe temperatures. “Using animals for medical training is outdated, unnecessary, and is no longer considered the most effective way to train physicians. I look forward to continuing to act as an advocate for our furry friends in the General Assembly.”

“Animal Rescue Rhode Island is well known for its work protecting animals,” said Senator Valverde. “I am truly honored to receive this award and look forward to building upon Rhode Island’s laws to see that all animals are protected.”

Since 1938, Animal Rescue Rhode Island (ARRI) has been committed to the humane welfare and well-being of animals in need. ARRI rescues abandoned, abused, and surrendered animals without geographic limitation and nurtures them to be adopted as pets in loving homes. ARRI fosters animals by following a no-kill philosophy where no animal is ever euthanized because of time, space, breed, or humanely treatable condition, in an environment which is safe, healthy and loving.
