Senator Calkin recovering following leg amputation

Posted

In an email Wednesday, A.J. Braverman, a friend of Senator Jeanine Calkin, wrote that the senator is focused on her recovery and her family is focused on supporting her.

In a statement posted on social media, Senator Calkin said she fell unconscious on Sunday, 18 and was rushed to Kent Hospital and then transported to Rhode Island Hospital,

“Doctors discovered that I had an infection, which had led to blood clots. The clotting had blocked the flow of blood to my legs. The doctors determined that to save my life, they needed to amputate my right leg, which they did on Friday,” she wrote.

“It will be a long and difficult road back, but I am a fighter,” she wrote. “I love representing the people of Senate District 30 and all Rhode Islanders. There is so much important work ahead of us, and I will be back as soon as I can.”

Calkin said there is no reason to believe that the clotting was related to the Covid-19 vaccine.

Braverman said those wishing to send cards should address them to Senator Calkin at 351 Smith St., PO Box 28011, Providence 02908.
