Lillian Zanfagna couldn’t understand all the fuss yesterday when Congressman James Langevin, Mayor Scott Avedisian, her fiends at the Pilgrim Senior Center and the news media joined at the center to wish her happy birthday. “It’s not my birthday today, it’s Thursday,” she announced to the assembly. But Lillian, who has been a regular at the center ever since her husband died 29 years ago, went along with the party. She does like cake, and there was an extra large one for everyone to enjoy. Born 100 years ago come March 5 in Providence, Lillian is the mother of three, grandmother of five, great-grandmother of 10 and great-great-grandmother of five. She worked for 35 years in a manufacturing company now owned by Textron. Until recently, when her eyesight gave her problems, Lillian was an avid reader. Her passion for bingo is undiminished, and she still enjoys an occasional trip to Foxwoods. And she has a new love in her life, Zoe, a dog she adopted that keeps her constant company. Langevin delivered a letter of congratulations from President Obama and a resolution from the House of Representatives. Likewise, the mayor had a resolution of congratulations.
