St. Rose of Lima students thank veterans for their service

Their day: Ceremonies were held throughout the city Tuesday and Wednesday in honor of Veterans Day. There were flag raising events; assemblies where students sang and read poems to veterans and even a student-run observation at Vets High. You’ll find coverage throughout today’s Beacon, including that of the St. Rose of Lima School event where these veterans waited to be called to the stage.

All branches of the military service were represented Tuesday morning as St. Rose of Lima students joined for a Veterans Day observance in the school all-purpose room staged by teacher Steve Andolfo.

Veterans, many of them related to students at the school, were seated on the stage and some chose to give brief remarks about their service. Andolfo also spoke about sacrifices made by those in the service to preserve American freedoms and there was a flag presentation along with the playing of the National Anthem. As the veterans left they were given letters of thanks written by the students.
