Stephen P. Marra, 52, of Warwick, died August 31, 2011 at home.
Born in Providence, he was the beloved son of Michael and Edith (Golato) Marra. Stephen was the owner of Marra Restaurant Group, which operates numerous restaurants throughout Rhode Island. He formerly was involved with Cowan Plastics and Alias, Smith & Jones Restaurant.
Steve had been a volunteer on the RI Hospitality Board of Directors since 2005, serving as chairman in 2010. He was the leader of the Save Our State Campaign, East Greenwich Smoking Ban and many other causes and was instrumental in leading volunteers.
During his tenure he helped raise money for the RI Hospitality Association and its Education Foundation. Steve’s passion for the restaurant industry was undeniable. He was a leader and mentor. He was a graduate of Providence College, Class of 1980, and a member of the President’s Council and the RI Commodores. He was active in many charities, including Cornerstone, Sargent Center, Surfers Healing, RI Food Bank and Acts of Kindness.
He was the brother of Michael G. Marra and twin brother of Doreen Bullock, and uncle and godfather of Nicholas Bullock. He also leaves his dogs, Louie and Fonzie.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesett Road, Warwick, Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. Burial and visiting hours will be private.
