The talent is set and Pawtuxet Park is ready for another season of summer open-air activities sponsored by Friends of Pawtuxet Village.
The summer series begins Thursday, July 9 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with Jazz Jam in the Park with local seasoned jazz musicians mentoring local students and/or aspiring jazz musicians.
The final event of the summer series sponsored by Friends of Pawtuxet Village is the 4th Annual Theater in the Park, featuring The Players of The Barker Playhouse, America’s oldest Little Theater (since 1909!) on Friday, August 21 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.. The theater company will be performing a line of musical one-act scenes taken from various from the Film Noir genre.
In addition to these two events sponsored by Friends of Pawtuxet Village, Pawtuxet Park is the location of a weekly concert, held every Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. These concerts are hosted by local Village eatery, O’Rourke’s Bar & Grille in conjunction with the Pawtuxet Village Merchants Association.
“This series of summer events are now becoming an institution and a highlight of the summer calendar, often bringing professional local talent to Pawtuxet Village,” said Marta V. Martinez, Chair of Friends of Pawtuxet Village. “It is also a lot of fun. People love to bring their lawn chairs, blankets and a bite to eat while enjoying great jazz and local theater in our quaint Village and park.”
