Newport diners looking to satisfy a craving for salt-meets-sweet are in for a unique treat. The Tavern on Broadway (16 Broadway, Newport) introduces a new winter menu dessert that marries the smoky taste of fresh bacon with chocolate and salted caramel for a delectable indulgence.
The Tavern’s Chocolate Bacon Bar is composed of chocolate bacon ganache layered with salted caramel, crispy bacon, vanilla ice cream and chocolate ice cream. Chef Tim Sousa was inspired to create the dessert after seeing a bacon mocha coffee drink on the menu at the coffee shop next door.
“The idea of mixing chocolate with meat is not new and actually dates back to the Aztec days with their invention of a thick chocolate-laced mole sauce. Experimenting in The Tavern kitchen with the different elements of chocolate and bacon led to the creation of an unforgettable dessert.”
Daring chefs and restaurant-goers alike have embraced the chocolate/bacon trend, and now guests of The Tavern on Broadway can experience this savory flavor combination for themselves. To view menus and make reservations, visit TavernonBroadway.com or call 619-5675.
