Taxpayers beware of the Comprehensive Plan

Posted

To the Editor,

The residents of Alpine Estates have fought against a zoning change on abutting land for decades. This fight has taken countless hours and appearances in front of the Cranston Commissions and Councils. Why has this fight dragged on over and over again when clearly the taxpayers were against the zoning change? Because the zoning change was put into the Comprehensive Plan at the request of the developer (Page 46, 2010 Comprehensive Plan). The last Comprehensive Plan was approved 14 years ago in 2010 and an updated version is currently being written with approvals targeted for this September/October. First, taxpayers be aware that the interests you have for your neighborhoods and schools don’t always align with the drafters of the Comprehensive Plan and developers of land. And secondly, urge elected officials to fight ANY residential zoning changes appearing in the Comprehensive Plan. Residential zoning changes should be discussed and voted on when the residents are properly notified and intelligent discussion can be had by all.
