Vets principal arrested, charged with DUI

Posted

Warwick Veterans Memorial Middle School Principal Jeff Goss is still in his role after pleading not guilty to a charge of driving under the influence (DUI).

Goss was arrested by Tiverton police on St. Patrick’s Day following a crash with another car that occurred just before 4 p.m. According to the Tiverton Police report, the driver of the other car reported minor injuries to his head and shoulder, but was otherwise fine. No other injuries were reported.

“[The other driver] stated that he was not sure if Goss was impaired but his driving was all over the road,” the report, submitted by Tiverton patrol officer Shaun Wilson, reads. “[The other driver] stated he was driving south and observed the vehicle swerving in and out of lanes, then bouncing off the guard rail before T-Boning his vehicle.”

The police report said Goss smelled of alcohol and was disoriented and off-balance, and did not pass field sobriety tests. He also reportedly admitted to having six Bud Lights at the Dublin Rose, an Irish pub in Seekonk.

Goss did not consent to a breathalyzer test, according to the report.

In a statement, Warwick Public Schools Superintendent Lynn Dambruch said Goss is still serving as the school’s principal, though that could change in the future.

“The administrator is still employed by the school department and still serving in their capacity,” Dambruch stated. “However, we continue to monitor the situation.  Due to the fact that this is a personnel matter, we cannot comment further at this time.”

Last Thursday, Goss pled not guilty to the DUI charges, and was released on personal recognizance.
