Warwick Police Chief Steven McCartney said at 9:45 this morning that Warwick, Cranston and Johnston detectives were meeting at this time and that he expected a briefing later in the day. He said that because the letter, which was received by mail, went to the Johnston Department that they are the jurisdiction handling the matter. McCartney said the "sole preoccupation at this time" is to put a police officer at every school. He called the individual making the threat "mindless" and said that they had played upon people's fears by targeting the most vulnerable school population, and with the threat of a "beheading" played off horrific events in other parts of the world. He said police officers would be at all the schools today, tomorrow and Friday unless there is a development that would negate the precaution.

We live in such a non-macho country that scared parents kept thousands of kids out of school. If we allow ourselves to be so cowardly, the enemy won't even have to come here. They can ruin us with emails.

Actually with all the police presence the kids were probably safer at school. Sick people rarely send a warning before acting.
