To the Editor:
Word came in Sunday evening that Mrs. Ruth Bowling, the mother of our late School Committee leader Bill Bowling, had passed away. A remarkable strong lady who lived in Denver, Colo., I first met Ruth when Bill Bowling was campaigning for the School Committee. And, in typical motherly fashion, she was very proud of her son and excited about his election victory. But I learned over time that Ruth was Warwick’s far flung cheerleader. She so loved Warwick and being a part of all that Bill, his wife Dr. Kathleen Bowling, and their three boys did in our city.
You meet few people who are just unabashed about their love for a place. Ruth Bowling did that for our city. I will miss our #1 cheerleader from Denver and am grateful for the chance to have known her.
Mayor Scott Avedisian
