Scott School fourth grade teacher Lissa Scarpellino asked her class to write why they should be considered heroes. The answers have since been posted in the school corridor and on a visit to the school recently two were picked out by a Beacon photographer. Here Mackenzie North and Brooke Ellis are pictured holding their essays. And here’s what each of them had to say:
It’s not about the super powers. I’m a hero because I make people laugh and smile.
When my friends or family are sad or in a bad mood, I cheer them up with my humor and a hug. Sometimes people are sad and it takes a lot of strength to make them see the positive side. When anybody smiles, it makes me happy and warm inside because they are happy, too. Most of the time, I make people laugh or see them laughing. I know that they are having a good time and making their friends feel great.
This is why I’m a hero!
Mackenzie North
I am a hero because when someone is in trouble, I try to help!
One day, I was at the park with friend Eve. There were other kids there, too. I told her that I was going to talk with one of the kids I knew. When I came back from talking with one of my friends, I saw a lot of them around Eve. I ran as fast as I could possibly go. I looked at her and she had tears in her eyes. I said that they were being really mean and that they should be ashamed of themselves. I told them to stop and they did. She was happy because I stuck up for her.
I consider myself a hero because I want to help people when they are in trouble!
Brooke Ellis
