Roger Williams Park Zoo invites you to the “Slash the Trash” conservation concert on April 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Zoo’s Wilderness Plaza.
Visitors can rock out to bands Rock-A-Baby at 5:30 p.m. (interactive music for infants, toddlers and pre-K) and Farm Dog at 6:30 p.m. (classic rock for all ages), or enjoy any of the other family friendly activities available.
Doors will open at 5 p.m., and tickets can be purchased in advance at www.rwpzoo.org.
All proceeds from the event will go directly toward the purchase of a Big Belly Solar Powered Trash Compactor. The zoo’s Roots & Shoots (R&S) club researched these “mean green conservation machines,” and proposed the idea to zoo management. At capacity, these trashcans can compact between 150 and 180 gallons of trash into a 32-gallon bin, which can significantly “slash” the volume of trash generated by zoo visitors.
After getting a go-ahead from the zoo, the R&S club planned the “Slash the Trash” concert to support the purchase of a Big Belly, which is about $4,000 per unit. To help, the zoo’s security company, NESCTC Security Agency LLC, and both bands are donating their time for this fundraiser.
Tickets for the event are $10 per person regardless of membership status, and children 2 and under are free. For more information, or to purchase tickets visit www.rwpzoo.org.
