Representatives from Intel and Best Buy along with the school mascot Rocky were surprise guests at Warwick Neck Elementary School Wednesday. They delivered the news the school is the Rhode Island winner of four Alienware Gaming packages valued at $11,595.84 and a $5,000 Intel cash grant that will be used for technology. Dan Pilkington, advocacy manager for Intel, who attended the event, explained the advanced computers had been used in a national competition held in Florida and that the company elected to give the units to give to schools in 28 states. The local Best Buy on Route 2 – the state’s only Best Buy – selected Warwick Neck from a list of schools. Principal Frank Galligan was delighted with the award. He said technology is always changing and the units are new learning tools. Nicole Doyle, of Intel who flew in from Texas, made the presentation. Joining her from left at the front of the school’s all purpose room are: Jordan Bennison and Jessica Curran of Best Buy, Galligan and Rocky. And then there’s the “real” Rocky Megan Senecal.
