The Warwick Continental and Warwick North Little League All-Stars got their tournaments underway last week with some teams making noise and still in the hunt for a District III title in the coming weeks.
The WCA 12’s most recently took on North Kingstown/Wickford last week and would roll to a 7-2 decision to set up a meeting this Thursday against South Kingstown. Owen Sowa and Kevin Gonsalves led WCA at the plate by each knocking in a pair of runs while Michael Sabetta, Drew Zablocki and Colby Fales also recorded RBI in the win. Sabetta was stellar on the mound for WCA, pitching 4 2/3 innings and allowing no runs on just two hits while striking out 14 batters to pick up the win.
The North 12’s fell to East Greenwich 14-2 to drop to the losers bracket. North played NK/Wickford on Wednesday but the results were not available at press time.
The North 11’s are still in the mix in their division after picking up a victory against NK/Wickford in a 9-8 thriller, but were then shut out 10-0 by East Greenwich the following round to fall to the losers bracket. North will be facing South Kingstown in the losers bracket final next Tuesday on the road. The WCA 11’s dropped their first game of the tournament to East Greenwich by a 7-1 score but bounced back to beat Exeter-West Greenwich 11-1. WCA was eliminated the next game when SK picked up the 4-0 shutout win.
The WCA and North 10’s each fell in their first round matchups. Coventry edged WCA in a tight 7-5 battle while Westerly made the trip to the pit and dealt North a 12-2 loss.
